We will have a board meeting first with him and he will be our featured speaker that day.

RYLA, Boy Scouts and North Pole High School Prom

North Pole High School student Kayla Clark gave a report on her experience with RYLA 2007. Kayla feels the understanding and skills gathered from this conference will prove valuable to her future. She appreciated the opportunity to participate and to hear from her peers, and learn from the RYLA directors. Thank you Rotarian Tasmin for heading this committee again!

Doug Boyer, Jr., a member of the Boy Scout troop that North Pole Rotary sponsors, gave a presentation on the project he is working on for his Eagle badge. He is building an enclosed bus stop across from North Pole Middle School and accessible to residents of Holiday Heights. Doug realized that there really were quite a few students standing outside in the cold after school waiting for the public transit bus, and began researching the possibility of building this enclosed bus stop. He is working with DOT, City of North Pole, and has approved engineering drawings and permits required to build this stop. Doug is seeking funding to purchase materials to make this happen. If you are interested in helping in Doug's endeavor, contact President Jeannette for his contact information.

North Pole High School is seeking volunteers to help with the Jr./Sr. Prom on Saturday, April 28, at the Westmark Hotel. If you're not participating in the Rotary Clean Up Day on April 28, you are welcome to help decorate from 8A-noon at the hotel. Chaperones and other volunteers are needed during the prom which begins at 8P. Are you a night owl? Then maybe the clean up committee from midnight to 1A would fit in your schedule. If you can help, please give the school at call at 488-3761.

Dave Schmitz and Farm Aid

Long time North Pole resident, farmer and teacher was seriously injured last month. After several days in ICU with broken ribs and a broken vertebra, he continues his hospitalization in Anchorage. He is not due to return to North Pole HS before next fall. In an effort to help with the family farm, medical expenses, etc. a number of groups have come together to create Farm Aid: North Pole--a benefit for the Schmitz Family--which will happen on April 25. Sponsoring groups include 4H, NPHS Key Club, NPHS and others. More information about Dave is available at the following link: http://newsminer.com/2007/03/31/6226/ This article includes a link to a great blog with even more detailed information.
