Attention all NP Rotary Members – Today is the date we must submit out preliminary rose order to the florist. For that reason it would be very helpful if we received an email from those of you who anticipate selling more roses (or for those who have not yet turned in your order forms) advising us of the number of dozen we should count on. Please send your estimates directly to Donna T. at dandj@acsalaska.net
Please email dandj@acsalaska.net if your choice is to have $100.00 billed to your account. This too will help us know were we are on our orders.
Also sell 10 dozen and get a makeup and a chance to wine the last bottle of wine next week Sept 5th.
Preliminarly we have raised $800 dollars this is far from our goal of $2000.00 we need to buy two shelter boxes. Please help us meet our goal!
This is one of our biggest fund raisers of the year and everyone’s participation is necessary to make it a success, so get out there and sell your roses.
Festival Fairbanks

Michelle gave us as though overview of the proposed Chena River Walk. This is planned to extend from the current walk to Peger Road, cross the river and return downtown to match up with the current walks. After it is completed a person will be able to walk or bike from Wendell Street to Peger Road and return on the other side of the river. Along the way travelers will be treated to cultural signage and art work representing the Interior much like the current walk that starts at Cushman Street.
Negotiations and discussions are now under way. So, the exact timetable is unknown. But, she was optimistic that work will get under way in the near future.
Answering quest ions she assured us that the path will be designed and signed for multiple safe uses by walkers, skaters and bicyclists.
She asked that if we had an opportunity to voice support for the project we do so.
Thanks Michelle for a great presentation.

Jeff's Tucker's Shelter box Presentation

Shelter boxes are usually packed with one (sometimes two) ten-person tent(s) (200 sq ft). Other items can include insulated sleeping mats and bags, thermal blankets, water purification tablets, water containers/carriers, a trenching shovel, rope, a hatchet, a jack-knife, a screwdriver, a hammer, a multi-fueled cook stove, eating utensils and plates, and a children's' activity kit.
In 2006 Shelter box responded to disaster situations in 12 different countries, providing emergency accommodations for more than 82,000 disaster victims. The year began with aid still being delivered to earthquake victims in Kashmir, who also received further help in November. The year's biggest emergency was in Java, when the island was hit by an earthquake, a volcanic eruption, and a tsunami within just a few weeks.
Thank you Jeff for your Donation of $100 dollars to providing Humanitarian aid to people around the world. If you are interested in matching his donation please contact Jeff @ jtucker@northstarfire.org
Or For this years Rose Sale Team A decided to donate the profits to hopefully purchase two boxes. These boxes we will be able to track by a serial number and see live online were we are making a difference!
From Sunrisers Rotary Club president Pam Wentz:
You are invited to a Rotary non-hosted dinner at the Salmon Bake on Thursday evening, August 23 beginning at 6P. Steve Rickard, a micro-credit expert from Rotary International, will speak with Rotarians interested in micro-credit banking. This involves starting a program to loan small amounts of money to individuals in developing countries to allow them to earn a living, pay back the money and lift themselves out of poverty. This event is for anyone interested in alleviating suffering in the third world. Pay for your own meal, wine and beer available.
Steve will also speak at the Sunrisers club on Friday morning, August 24.

August 29th Working meeting
August 29 is a fifth week in a month meeting. When this happens, the board takes over coordinating the program. I'd scheduled Bob Groseclose to speak at the August 29 meeting, however, he's just emailed me that he's going moose hunting.
So, we're going to make this a Club Assembly, which is the normal case for fifth-week meetings. A club assembly is a working meeting - teams divide into their groups and work on whatever needs to be worked on. For instance Team A might work on the rose sale or schedule dates for events they are responsible for on their team. Team C could work on fall clean up, the club project (Jimmy O'Connor park), or talk about the health fair or basketball tournament. If you team doesn't have anything to discuss right now, you can sit in on another team that needs help.
Volunteers are needed for the following regular duties. If you can help (or perhaps one of your team members wants to), please let me know and in advance,
THANK YOU!

Farewell Potluck for Jeannette James Sept 7th 6- 830pm
Join fellow Interior Alaskans in bidding farewell to our own Jeannette James and thank her for her services to our community and our State. After making Alaska their home for over thirty years, Jim and Jeannette James are moving to a milder climate. We would like to keep it simple with hamburgers, hot dogs, salads, chips, desserts, baked beans, and drinks. We are looking for volunteer cooks and clean up crew. Please let me know as early as possible what you are willing to do and I will keep you posted as the gaps get filled. Thanks,
